Macaroni and Cheese
RECIPE COURTESY OF REE DRUMMOND
Level: Easy
Total: 55 min
Prep: 15 min
Cook: 40 min
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

4 cups dried macaroni
1 whole egg
1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups whole milk
2 heaping teaspoons dry mustard (more if desired)
1 pound sharp Cheddar, grated (not pre-grated cheese), plus more for baking
Salt
Seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Optional spices: cayenne pepper, paprika, thyme

Macaroni and Cheese and Sliders Bar:
1 pound thick-cut peppered bacon
3 yellow onions, halved and sliced
3 tablespoons butter
8 ounces gorgonzola
Cooked sliders and/or macaroni and cheese, for serving

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cook the macaroni until still slightly firm. Drain and set aside.

In a small bowl, beat the egg. In a large pot, melt the butter and sprinkle in the flour. Whisk together over medium-low heat. Cook for a couple of minutes, whisking constantly. Don’t let it burn. Pour in the milk, add the mustard and whisk until smooth. Cook until very thick, about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to low.

Take 1/4 cup of the sauce and slowly pour it into the beaten egg, whisking constantly to avoid cooking the eggs. Whisk together until smooth. Pour the egg into the sauce, whisking constantly. Stir until smooth. Add in the cheese and stir to melt. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt and the pepper. Add any additional spices if desired. Taste the sauce and add more salt and seasoned salt as needed! DO NOT UNDERSALT.

Pour in the drained, cooked macaroni and stir to combine. Serve immediately (while it’s still very creamy) or pour into a buttered baking dish, top with extra cheese and bake until bubbly and golden on top, 20 to 25 minutes.

Macaroni and Cheese and Sliders Bar:
Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until slightly crisp, about 8 minutes. Remove from the pan and cut into bite-size pieces.

In a separate pan, cook the onions in the butter over a low heat until caramelized, 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Use a fork to crumble the gorgonzola.

Put the bacon, caramelized onions and crumbled gorgonzola into separate bowls. Serve as delicious toppings for both sliders and macaroni cheese.

Denise C on November 24, 2021

Should you bake it to cook the eggs first?

Winning with L’s on November 24, 2021

I’d like to try her recipe but her comment is just straight up ignorant. I, as a Latina take offense to her comment “when we have a birthday we don’t have a piñata and 50 kids running around. It’s more of a family gathering”. What is that suppose to mean? What makes her think that for us that’s not a family gathering. Isn’t having a birthday party for our children, a family gathering because we are celebrating another year of their life?

Viianey Love on November 25, 2021

The piñata comment 😂

Maria Lopez on November 25, 2021

What do you, "we dont have a Piñata or 50 people running around"??? racist comment much?!! Whats wrong with having a BIG Family??

Myrlei Renee on November 26, 2021

There is something wrong with what she said, why do you have to mention “50” kids running around and say it right after saying you don’t have a piñata? That is something insensitive, point blank period.

Gee Gee on November 30, 2021

What heck did she just say???? Sounds like she is stereotyping. What does a kids birthday party with a piñata, have to do with making mac and cheese?

Bonafide Rarity on December 4, 2021

Ol racist bih

David Gunnell on December 10, 2021

Piñatas and 50 kids running around…along with her Asian chicken wings…how hasn’t this racist been cancelled yet?

Marie Solis on December 10, 2021

orribile

Orion88 on December 16, 2021

This entire video is nauseating. From the LatinX racist comment to the grating metal whisk on the enamel to the endless mentioning of her children/ ranch/ husband to the ludicrous video montage of the outdoor ranch biz. It’s a very saucy béchamel based mac and cheese. The season salt was a bit embarrassing but it gets the garlic onion and paprika in there. But the sugar aspect would be a bit weird. The eggs should have been yolk only.

Timothy Genaw on December 17, 2021

Mrs. Drummond, you know what you're doing!. Each time I follow your instructions exactly, the food tastes great!

Amy אָהַב on December 29, 2021

“This is pretty much all I ate for the first ten years of my life.”

. GREAT PARENTS.
👎🏼

Aldo Jovanni on December 31, 2021

I cut this video off at 29 seconds! How rude and racist to say “We don’t have piñatas and 50 kids running around the house!” Who was that remark intended for????

Viviana Guzman on December 31, 2021

That looks delicious 😋
